Frederick Johntz is a graduate of the Theater Arts program the University of California at Santa Cruz and the Cinema Studies program at San Francisco State University. In 1999 he and writer/director Mark Travis formed Travis-Johntz, a Consulting, Development and Production Company. In his capacity as Creative Consultant, Frederick has worked with writers and directors on numerous films including Men of Honor; starring Robert De Niro and Cuba Gooding Jr.; Barbershop 1 & 2 starring Ice Cube and Cedric the Entertainer; Black Irish starring Brendan Gleeson and Michael Angarano; and the upcoming Not Forgotten starring Christian Slater and television episodes of: Lois and Clark; The Pretender; Picket Fences, 90210, Melrose Place; Strong Medicine; NYPD Blue; The Practice and Ally MacBeal.
Frederick has taught Film Directing at UCLA Extension, AFI’s Professional Training Program and the Film Farm in Kotla Poland. Frederick's film directing credits include the award winning short film Toast (CINE Golden Eagle), the concert video Talking Loud with Jim Carroll and Ray Manzarek; and Down the Pike. His theatre directing credits include Wonder in Aliceland, Birthday Girl, Ecstasy & the Ice Queen; Strange Voyage; The Harmfulness of Tobacco; and Dark Hours to name a few.
The Promenade Playhouse & Conservatory is a Santa Monica based Acting, Screenwriting and Directing school that serves artists from Los Angeles, Hollywood, and throughout California. The Conservatory offers acting, screenwriting, directing, and improv comedy classes. It is a well-respected school that serves both local and international students. International students can also take English As A Second Language classes (ESL), and may qualify for a federal F1 Visa. Instructors include Natalia Lazarus, Syd Field, Matt Moore, Sally Kirkland, and several other celebrity teachers and Hollywood Casting Directors. Alumni include Ken Jeong, Teresa Ruiz and Leslie Garza. Acting techniques include Stella Adler, Lee Strasberg, Sanford Meisner, and Michael Chekhov. The Playhouse is home to 3rd Street Comedy and the Promenade Players theatre company. The Promenade Playhouse also offers theatre rental, stage rental, screening rooms, and rehearsal space.
